I have an old outdoor faucet that is leaking water I removed the stem brought it to a store and they added a washer at the end with a screw on it (see picture). The switch of the water source is very old and hard to turn to stop the water supply to this faucet

If you were to try to cork the faucet, then it needs to be able to withstand the full pressure of your water supply since the leak will eventually equalize the pressure before it stops leaking And this assumes you don't have a shower head and that other fittings after the valve are designed for full water pressure. 3 as you can see, the outdoor faucet in my backyard leaks when the water is turned on It does not leak when the water is turned off
